Is it not the size of the ends which are more critical?

The size of the pipe is  crucial if the pipe is to small you will get more break peddle travel to fill the break piston's two way's round this to find out the pipe size use vin number or use a micrometer .  Smile
Smile  It's too orangey for crow's It's just for me and my dog  Smile

micrometer to measure the internal bore of the existing brake line , yes,
But how do I get information by using the Vin number ?
this could help me trace many parts accurately if I have this knowledge .
Sounds like you know your stuff

No VIN required just go to your local motor factors and get the stuff from them ... pipes and fittings ... job done.

By the way brake pipe is measured by external diameter.

Are you familiar with pipe flaring ?

The brake lines are standard 3/16" pipe also called 5mm. I buy a roll of Kunifer cupro nickel pipe, you can get 25ft for about £12 and it would pipe the whole vehicle.
So where does this bit go then ?
