Hello new member and warning light issues.
#1
Hi all

New to the forum and a Berlingo owner since yesterday 2005 1.8d panel van. I have the engine warning light on and wonder if anyone can help, it is intermittent but seems to come on first when I accelerate then when I slow down again beeping each time.

The diagnostic test threw out an unspecified error not a proper code apparently. It does seem very slow in first needing to change up very quickly but I wonder if that's because it's a 1.8 with no turbo?

I have tried disconnecting the MAF sensor but doesn't seem to make much difference. I wonder if maybe throttle position sensor? but I imagine that would throw out a proper code.

Thanks for taking the time to read and any help would be much appreciated.

Are you sure its engine light coming on? check brake fluid level as if it isn't up on high mark or even above it will put warning lights on. The non turbo berlingos are slow but they go on for years what I would do is give it a service and go from there.
Are we there yet????? Huh
Ex 1.6hdi van now 3 seater 1.4 multispace

it's the check engine light. But will certainly give the oil etc a check as I said only got it yesterday so no real idea what has or hasn't been done over the last few years.

I have had a look today, all levels look good air filter looks brand new. It's 2005 on 85,000 so not done a great deal of miles. Anyone got any ideas where to start???

My guess would also have been the brake fluid levels as it's happening when accelerating & braking.
2005 should have an OBD connector, try a code reader. Cheap enough online, or maybe someone you know has one?

Hi thanks for the assistance, has had a diagnostics test. Apparently it was giving an unspecified code citroen didn't know what it meant.

Ah, understood! If it's from a Citroen garage, I'm guessing that they used Lexia or Diagbox.

It might still be worth buying a cheapo reader & putting the Torque app on a phone. That way you can set some live monitoring of various parameters, which may give a clue. Not sure what readings the 1.8 / 1.9D will give but the readers don't cost an awful lot & will probably be useful in future.

Thanks for the advice I will get a reader. I took it out today most notable is I can only get to about 10 mph in first then have to change up, would that be normal?

I also noticed the fuel filler cap doesn't look to have a seal on it which seems strange is there usually rubber on it?
