Multispace Desire airbag spec

I've just bought a 2007 2nd hand Berlingo 1.6HDi Desire. Pre-purchase I noted a drivers airbag fault display which was pointed out to the dealer as needing fixing as a condition of sale. They have sent it to a garage who say that the electronics have the bag mapped as a multi stage airbag and not as a single stage one. This strikes me as strange. Would someone go in and change the setting of just the drivers airbag (Passenger one shows no fault). Or has the drivers multi stage airbag been changed (possibly due to a fault, there is no sign of an accidental deployment) for a single stage one.
If anyone has the spec for the type of airbag that should be fitted, I would be grateful for a reply.

Knowing Citroen, it may well have been standard at manufacture. Yours is one of the last Mk.IIs and
as the ECU recognises that it is multi-stage I would think it may well be the case as airbags are
not generally able to be swapped between models. The under seat connectors seem to be a source of
airbag fault lights (loose/dirty).

Ill second that, my fault light come on every time I adjust the seat, if I ignore it it eventually goes off on its own or if I fiddle with the underseat wiring it goes off straight away

It's not the underseat wiring, that was the 1st thing checked after viewing the forum.
The computer diagnostics are reporting that the airbag is 'mapped' as a multi stage but that there is a single stage bag fitted. I can't envisage a situation where someone would connect a computer to the car and change the mapping on just the drivers side.
I'm trying to find out the original specification as if, for some reason, a single stage replacement has been fitted instead of a multi stage I can insist the dealer fits the correct version (Citroen Part No. 4122KX).

If it was a condition of sale get the dealer to sort it. If he's fobbing you off with with technical bull, tell him you want your money back.
Different code readers give different interpretations of faults. The best code reader for Citroen's is Lexia.
The correct airbag for your vehicle is "4112 KX" not 4122kx.
Don't forget you have side airbags fitted on the seats.
Check that the passengers airbag is not switched off via the switch as this gives the warning as well.

At some stage, I believe, Citroen changed from a single stage airbag to a multi stage (amongst other changes) to achieve a higher ENCAP rating.

Your Spec doesn't say anything about a multistage air bag.

I don't know exactly what code reader was used, but there was a delay of a few days whilst the garage waited for an update disc from SnapOn.
I'll mark this as closed but I'm still at a bit of a loss as to why the diagnostics would have the bag marked as multi stage. It just seems really strange for the setting to just change by itself and just as strange for someone to incorrectly set it.
