Radio not working
#1
Hi. I've just bought an 04 berlingo van with a factory radio. The radio doesn't work, it's not the fuse because there is power to it. The clock screen light is very faint and the lights on the radio comes on every now and then for a split second when driving but doesn't work. Any ideas what I can do to fix this.
Thanks Denny

The clock screen or do you mean the central display has 3 bulbs in it and if its faded some or all probably have gone. There is a how to on the site showing you how to replace these. Best pull the radio out and check the plugins on the back. The van may have had a different radio in and the factory one stuck back in at sale time. It could be butchered wiring causing your problem.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Thanks. Il try the bulbs. I've taken the unit out and the plugs seem fine but not sure bout the individual wires. It was a private sale. He said he has a cd stuck in it and u can hear it clicking in the machine he told me he was told it was a fault in the central display

Hi, as Denny said the display is most probably 2 of the three lamps have blown.
The radio - Pull it out and check for taped up connections / mods to the original wiring and check the earth for this which is under the centre console.
Have you tried a Bsi Reset?

Just to "pick your brains" Rustcrat,

Can the earth under the centre console be seen with the radio out??? and is this an earthing point for anything else???

Yeah there is defiantly something wrong with the electrics. I put new bulbs in and it worked great. There doesn't seem to be any wires out of place but I have noticed when driving the clock stops and when the vans engine is switched off and back on again the clock jumps to the correct time. Also I have noticed the indicators going from one direction to another on their own which is a bit dangerous

I think Rustscrat means the earth under the centre console where the fag lighter and gear lever are but I may be wrong. And dont forget the bsi reset.
