[Brakes] ABS problem and brake judder
#11
So I removed the wheels and had a good look... The darned spares place have sold me the wrong brake pads Sad The ones they sold me are the correct size, but they are too broad to fit in and bump up against the caliper... I'll have to exchange them some time.

The existing pads are actually OK. They are worn, but still have a few thousand km of life left. The ABS rings look ok, but I didn't have time to remove a drive shaft for a proper look.

We only have one car and live far from town, and I'm scared that I might do something that makes the car undrivable... Taxi's are incredibly expensive here, so if I disable the car it'll cost me a small fortune to get to the spares shop. I'm looking at buying another car so that at least one will be running at any time... I'd not hesitate to buy another Berlingo, but my wife isn't convinced. LOL

I did notice that one of the ABS rings looked like it had been scuffed or damaged by scraping against something.

Two days ago I was driving quite a long distance, and the ABS warning light came on. While it is on, the ABS is disabled, the juddering stops, the car drives like a dream, and the cruise control works properly... Does anyone know how I can force the ABS to disengage?

To disable the ABS there should be a fuse you can remove , probably in the engine fuse box.
