i looked at the pipes as described up here, and then looked through the papers / manual i posted earlier, and it said new seals, and i stopped there
And those warnings, that you can destroy something.....
Would be great to drain the whole system, But......

By that you mean the Berlingo reservoir? Where do i go deeper down there? in which corner of that labyrinth of reservoir?
i have a syringe, and a long fine thin tube...

Update: I just bought 3 liter fluid, and started to change 1 dl at the time. Seems clean now, and MUCH more light on the steering wheel

I use a big syringe with a length of tube on the end to get to the deepest darkest corners of the reservoir and suck it all out. Refill and run the vehicle for a while then repeat until the oil is clean when in duty.
A lazy way ??? who cares it is quick and easy and oil is cheaper than my time and time saved is time to be spent on beer, Land Rovers and taking the dogs out for a run followed by a trip to the pub.
Oh yes having squirted the old oil out of the syringe I use the same set up to suck fresh oil from the new oil bottle and squirt it into the reservoir as it is yet again quick and easy with no mess or decanting etc etc.
Did I mention lazy ? who cares :whistle: It works for me.
With you all the way on this one Geoff. A quick "In-out-Job Done" is the preferred way of doing jobs these days. I don't go looking for hassle or work. Too old and medically unfit to faff about too much !!!

Just posted a reply on the M49 section about how my steering is sometimes a bit heavy, sometimes not. I replaced the oil in the reservoir but only once, will try again over the next couple of days. Is there anything else to look out for on an M59? There are no leaks that I can see and the level stays up.

I’d detach the return from the rack from the bottle and blank the bottle return off after draining the reservoir, then lock to lock it with the return aiming into a separate container while pouring fluid into the reservoir, once the return flows nice and clean knock the engine off and reconnect the return pipe, top reservoir upto full and jobs a fish... I have never changed power steering fluid other than when replacing a rack generally and can’t comment on what a fresh fluid swap would do or not do to old seals in a rack
