My old berlingo weighed 2.5 tons and went up hill and down dale all over the country when I did sound offs all over the shop, other than a rotten radiator when I first got it it ran at 90-95 degrees...

Just as I feared! I can verify the temp gauge works and is accurate so I think it's been fitted with a faulty or just crap aftermarket radiator

I would say from that picture you posted that while the engine is getting hot it's not unreasonable if the weather is red hot as it has been and you were fully loaded, mine used to get upto the notch below where your needle is, I'd see what it's like with a test drive once we get more characteristic British weather ie wet and windy...
Out of curiosity I'd check the slow speed fan works ok with actuator test if you can get someone to test it for you...

Oh if I go fast on the motorway in the cold it will get hot easily too
I'm glad you mentioned the fan - we checked it was working at the top end and it does, but while I was researching before we left I heard about bitron units playing up on other citroen models. I could not find out for sure what arrangement the 'lingo has. The fan only comes on at the last notch before red though. When it comes on it does lower the temp. Should it be a multistage fan?

I would really appreciate that - but don't go rushing about straight after an op on my account! Hope it goes as well as these things can :-)

I have an 04 berlingo 1.9d thats been overheating lately, gets hot in traffic and going uphill (in a 1.9d everywhere feels like its uphill) it normally stays around 90, but in traffic it holds about 110 with the heaters blowing hot
After some investigation I found my radiator fan had stopped working. I have no owners manual so proceeded to check nearly every fuse, all ok. I took the 2 fan relays out and cleaned them up, they are both working. I then set about tracing the wiring, there seemed to be no supply to the fan. After some pulling things apart today I cracked it, there are some maxi fuses in the engine fusebox underneath the fuses you can see, who knew! The first fuse runs to the fan, it was blown. £1.82 later and my fan works again. I can hopefully drive home now without having the heaters on full blast, on a sunny day thats just horrible. My radiator is also bulging, how much was the replacement? The van has had a hard life but it just keeps passing mot's

Thank you so much mate the Haynes does not mention a multistage fan anywhere. I'm due home tomorrow so will look up the cost but it wasn't too bad as it's a straight forward job on these
Edit: so you had no fan at all working on yours?
