Stop Start working intermittently
#11
Seems to be what Zion posted above which is in the online manual (doh!) - if battery is needed to do something else like maintain a temperature, the stop start light flashes but the system doesn't switch off the engine. Not a fault at all, my error.

Mine stopped working in April last year, apart from a couple of times since when you'd least expect it to.
Sent it into citroen last week and they said battery was only 60% charged,  they charged overnight also done a software update and it is now been working all week.
I'm not convinced it will last though

Had my Flair D130SS for 18 months, from new (done 10,500 miles)the Stop Start worked for about 2 months and no logic to why.
I bought from Richmond Portsmouth, they could not fix.
In total frustration- I contacted Citroen,UK, made contact with Yeoman's Fareham.
They SORTED it-the re programmer the car, and BOTH keys
The only time it seems now not work is if outside air temperature is very low
The cure is to ensure the battery is 100% charged.
Then LEAVE the car for at least 4 hours for the on board computer to adjust to the new voltage.
I only partly understand the methology, but the Stop Start seems fixed to me, I will update in a month, and 3 months

6 months on, fix worked for a month, charging after this at 1A took 1- 1 1/2 hours, after leaving over night NO s&s,
HOWEVER out the blue 2 weeks ago in pouring rain, stuck in year in can flat out, lights on all wipers flat out of started working and has worked since.
This seems at odds to the fault primarily being the battery,it's as if MAYBE the low raging nature of this engine is not spinning the engine up enough.
Maybe I am not raging it enough in normal use.
QUESTION- has anyone who has replaced the factory batter because of the fault STILL eventually developed the fault again

Long story previously told, but agave 2 year old Berlingo 130D Flair 1st 18 months stop start worked in total about 1 month.Contacted Citroën UK advised to see another dealer Fareham (bought and after 8 visits to Farlington Portsmouth dealership, where I bought the car new).Citroën advised likely they will change battery,in the end NO FAULT FOUND.
However Citroën and garage advised the technicalities, dealer advised regular charging battery with a 4hr delay post charge.Citroen explained the theory of how the battery has been exhausted from start up and advised the likely 2hrs to get back full capacity.
The reality is/was that using a 1A charger, within 30/40 minutes the charger was trickling 100mA- SO clearly not charge system.
Anyway post dealer assessment the S/S worked consistently four a month Feb 21 to Mwrch 21,then stopped working.
Mid May upon driving home at 5pm in the dark,13C outside temp and very heavy rain, air con on to demist the windows, fan automatically high speed, front and rear wipers flat our rear window heater on.
The S/S started working, its now 20th July and S/S is still working.
The only difference is the cab temperature is set at 20C not 21C as I have always set my cars.
Actually took my car for 2nd service today dealer advised how this is what he has found with Citroën.
Really odd,my wife has a 3 year old Seat Ibeza S/S works ALWAYS the minute you are off the drive.
Not good is it.
I would be intrigued to know if those who have replaced their batteries have completely illiminated the problem!

Bought the car (2020 1.5 Blue HDi 130 XTR) new in January. Stop start was working fine until over the summer I noticed it stopped working. Every time I stopped the green stop start light on the dashboard would flick on for 5-10 seconds before going out and the engine would keep running throughout.

Wasn't particularly bothered, thought I would just report it at first service next January. However after updating the touch screen software a couple of weeks ago, it suddenly started working again. Can't think that the two were linked but that was the only thing different.

However in the last week it has been operating very intermittently. For example yesterday it wouldn't work, and green light again flashed on momentarily each time I stopped. I drove into town this morning however and it functioned fine. Whether it works or not does not seem to be a function of how far it had been driven beforehand.

As I say will report it at the next service but it just seems strange. Anyone else had this ?

I've had a similar experience with my 2016 b9. I've had this van form new, after approx 6 months the stop/start system stopped working, after three years of ownership I had a new battery fitted, the stop/start system started working,  after another 6 months it stopped working again.

My theory is that the stop/start system helps Citroen meet emission standards & will work when the battery is in optimum condition, as time goes by the battery condition drops, but is still ok to use for several years.

This is all a bit strange, if the bsi is monitoring battery voltage and selectively switches off s/s then maybe the battery capacity is not high enough to cope with short journeys or cold weather and dark nights, when the car has high electrical demands.

Generally speaking the French have further to travel between towns and perhaps this has led to a lesser capacity battery specified than needed in the UK.

Battery capacity drops something like 5% for every 10°C drop, so you can see why some vehicle manufacturers specify a higher capacity battery in colder climates.

Has anyone fitted a larger capacity battery and noticed the problem reduces or is solved. If so what spec was it?

I.T. is there to help, but unforgiving if you make a mistake

On my 2014 Airdream 1.6 auto the stop/start hasn't worked properly for about two years, but due to Covid I'd only done 400 miles in the last year so the battery wasn't getting much charge. With the wireless, headlights, heater etc on the s/s was always reluctant. Anyway Citroen dealer checked battery at recent service and said it wasn't holding the charge so fitted a new one as per existing. It now works OK and will probably be alright for a few years. My car is always garaged which helps stop it getting extremely cold. I considered getting a bigger capacity battery but never got round to it; maybe the next time I will.
