the cv joints are knackered so im going to just replace the complete shafts but there seems to be 3 different kinds for the 2.0hdi one with 34 teeth diff side and others with 24 teeth can i tell what i need without stripping it all back?

No stripping just climb under and count the teeth, there will be a ring around the CV Joint, probably square shaped / castellated and about 4 mm thick.

Get sufficient gearbox oil to change the oil at the same time - drop the oil before removing the shafts and you won't get oil going onto your drive !!

its going into my pals garage to get done its too wet and windy to be on my back in the garden. hopefully they will stop the clunking noise for good
