Just been recovered by the AA ??
Running along the motorway and the engine cut out. (B9 1.6 HDI Multispace)
No abnormal noises beforehand or warning lights.
Rolled to nearest slip road and attempted to restart the car and I got a single click but it didn’t fire up or turn over.
Battery light started flashing while coasting.
All other lights are functioning as they should, wipers functioning as they should but no turn over when attempting to start engine.
AA guy came out and took off the fan belt, told me to put car into second gear, take off hand brake and he started rocking the car back and forward.
He didn’t see anything turning ?
He thinks it could be down to the starter motor. How likely is this? What could be causing this issue? What checks could I perform?
There was also a faint eggy smell coming from the engine bay when this occurred.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be remedied?
2012 B9 1.6 HDI Multispace.
No codes were read by the AA for some reason so I will plug Diagbox into it in the morning when I have daylight to work with. I’m thinking starter motor but I’m probably wrong knowing me. It’s currently on 230,571 miles and again when it’s daylight I’m going to confirm whether or not the cam belt has snapped (hopefully not).
When you try to start it it makes a single click but won’t even turn over. Battery voltage on rest is 12.18V. The AA guy took off the fan belt which is sitting on my back seat and if memory serves me well I think he turned the alternator and it moved freely with the belt off. At this point I’m uncertain if the cam belt has been damaged (hopefully not), but if it is how screwed am I? Is something like this fixable?
Cheers in advance.
