Thanks for the tip. I'll do that tomorrow and advise.
Had a good look today but no sign of any damage. Car booked in to Bolton Citroen agent on Monday morning. I will advise their findings.
It is now just over a week since I cleaned the ECU plugs and sockets and the overheating fault message has not returned. I have only used the car a couple of times but have done 20 or so miles return on both journeys. I am about to replace the panel which covers the OBD socket. What's to bet the problem returns the moment I do so!
