Oil light and stop light on after service
#1
Sorry me again...bit of a strange one so here I go...my berlingo needed a service so I changed the air filter no issues...went to change the cabin/pollen filter then realised after 1 hour of looking  the car doesnt have a cabin filter as it doesnt have A/C?‍..then came the oil change. Took the oil filter off drained old oil and then refitted new filter. Refilled with new oil cleaned up dropped bonnet then started car...oil pressure wouldn't rise and then the red STOP light came on along with red oil light and loads of bleeping...got a feeling something is wrong with the new filter??? Should the filter housing be hand tight or done with a socket?.. thanks guys

I've been told that fitting the oil filter upside down results in no oil pressure. Cant verify it as it has not happened to me but was told by a motor factor boss that feedback from some customers concerning oil filter fitted the wrong way resulted in no oil pressure.

Its a filter element not the cartridge type that supposedly causes the problem

Thanks for reply...I'm.confused now as it can only go in one way as there is a small lug on one end you have to line up otherwise it wont fit. It cant possibly go in the other way round...

I had something similar, replaced the oil filter and I thought I had it torqued to 25Nm, but the rubber o-ring might have been caught in the filter housing. There was an oil pressure warning on the MFD and a lot of beeping and rough sounding engine. Re-fitted it and it went away. It is not hand-tight, but 25Nm of torque.

Thanks mate that's interesting to know....I have beeping and yes the engine sounds rough..soninshould take out the new filter I put in..replace it with another new filter to make sure it's not damaged and try again just not over tighten and make sure seal isn't twisted.

I'm guessing from some of terminology used in this thread that the engine is a 1.6hdi !

Good point! I assumed it is the 1.6HDi.

That's why it's a good idea to put your vehicle details in your signature, people often forget to mention the engine type, year etc.

The lack of pressure could be due to a filter by-pass which may be the odd projection bit sticking out of the filter. My theory is that most post-service problems are caused by the mechanic (me included) so time to take the filter out and look closely at what you have and if need be fit another filter, as although it's a remote risk of a faulty one, it's easier to deal with a dry 'new' one. Certainly avoid running the engine with the oil light on - the rattling will be the bearings and damage will be done.
Put a smear of vaseline or oil on the O rings that are present and torque down (as above) - if you don't have a torque wrench then pull down pretty firmly to get the filter cover properly seated. Good luck!
