[Engine] initial tick over
#1
Hello First post so here goes.

Berlingo Multspace 1.9 D MFWJZ mk1 2001 DW

I have been living with a rough initial tick over, that varies between 825 revs to normal, for some months now, starting in the winter.

What I do is use the accelerator to get over this .

It seems like only 2 cylinders are working from the smoke out the back if left without using the accelerator trick !

I have now checked the glow plugs individually and tested /timed the pre/post operation and all is fine no problems.

No problems too of normal running.

Once the car has moved the tick over goes to normal and solid.

Something simple ? Big Grin

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

I think ive read on the forum and im sure it was about the 1.9 engine that they have a cold start device on the pump and a few of the lads on here have had problems with them and sorted it out. There is a fast idle cable on your pump so perhaps that is out of adjustment its covered in the haynes manual.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Thanks Tomcat for the reply. I have done some reading of the Haynes book and there is as you say a cold start device/stat that has a mechanical wire from it to the pump. It is called a fast idle thermostatic sensor ! I have now found it under the bonnet .
Haynes say there must be at least 6mm of travel of the wire from cold to hot, so I will see what happens and keep you informed . Confusedalut:
Excuse me if I have missed something with the gold stars or thanks received ratings, which I havent yet had time to find out about.
