I didn't know there was a 1.9 turbo (possibly showing my ignorance, asking out of curiosity).
Have you checked the BIG fuses under the bonnet?

Well its a family members van he asked me to take a look as why no power, well i checked all fuses there is power going to the barrel but not out to ignition/starter but if i direct power the outputs it will start and run.
Untill the direct power is taken away but cannot understand how to remove the barrel

The steering lock ignition barrel are usually held in with an anti tamper screw that you need to centre punch and drill out. Then you need to have the key in the ignition and turn to between marks A and M I think. Then there is a lug you need to push with a screwdriver to release the lock assembly. Don't forget to unclip all the wiring and immobiliser receiver before removing the barrel.
Are we there yet?????
