[Warning Light] Stop light engine overheating but engine is cold
#1
I will be driving down a long hill and the stop light flashes and the engine temp goes from 80'degrees to red line in less than a second. But I open the bonnet and the engine is cold. I disconnect and connect the battery terminal put the ignition on and the temp is back to 80 degrees. All in less than 2 minutes. I've flushed the radiator and engine and it carried on doing it, I took the thermostat out and it still does it. Can anyone help? I have a Citroen Berlin go 1.4 petrol I don't know what year it is I just know what its in the m59 category.

Do you carry out a BSI reset everytime you disconnect/reconnect battery?

Do a google search for BSI. Also if you search this forum for BSI reset, info here.

The temperature sensor should be in the head somewhere but to be honest i'm not really up on the petrol engine.

It may be worth checking you brake fluid level as this problem only happens when going down hill. If its low that may be the cause of the stop light coming on. I have no idea though of why the temp would rise.
