Thank you Gadgetman - it is the ECU as ours is behind the battery too. Do I need to start a new question asking about ECUs or will everyone see my question when they log on to the forum?

It would be preferable that you create a new thread specifically for your problem, yes.
Asking about your problem in a thread about someone else's problem is called 'thread hijacking', and users who does that may find themselves ignored, or even given stern warnings on some forums. (I don't know if there's a policy on it here)
And when that thread is marked 'Solved' a lot of users will just assume that the new posts are 'thank you' or 'me too' type posts, and never bother to read them.

Thanks - I couldn't see how to start a new thread but I certainly didn't want to hijack another so I'll get cracking
