Surely it's not illegal to dye your own fuel red?

Then they have to prove you wrong!

No its not illegal to dye your own fuel but not sure why you would want to. But it doesn`t pay to upset customs and excise you can end up in a whole new world of investigations and aggro.
Are we there yet????? Huh

I've worked on a number of road stops when they have attended and dipped the diesel tanks of all the commercial vehicles we stopped.

When they dip it, if it's red they will impound the vehicle and charge you the fine. I think it's £500 rising to £1000 if not paid straight away.. and a very long morning sorting things out. The last one was hanging around for most of the day attempting to get the money together to get his van back. Then he had xx hours to have the tank removed and cleaned and presented for a second inspection.

Chances are they will treat it as red diesel and let you prove otherwise and not the other way around! You'd have to be crazy to want to dye it red for a laugh!

You can also use red diesel in boats legally in the UK, however if you go abroad they will fine you for using it, even if you have the receipt :brickwall:

Customs and Excise are the most powerful Gov dept. Their powers are far more reaching than even the Police, you get on the wrong side of C&E and they can wipe the floor with you for years.
First the Nab, then the Warner,
Spit Sand Fort then Blockhouse Corner. DBF!
