Mk1 Multispace, Micro Camper?
#21
I made some curtains up, from two shower curtains, light weight, shower proof, easy to clean, cheap etc etc. My sewing skills are pretty shonky at best but I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

They're on the springy type curtain wires, screwed to trim clips of the car, so fairly structurally mounted to the metal work.

The front one starts above the seat belts, heads up and in wards at 45 degrees to meet the roofline, then to the middle to meet the other half. I've sewn neo-magnets into the hems, which help keep them together in the middle, to attach them to the metal at the sides and to act as tie backs too!

The side one is more simple, one piece which tucks into the cupboards.

The rear hatch has one too, there are two curtain wires here, one to retain it when the boot is lifted. Both wires are mounted to the bootlid, it seemed easier than mounting them to the interior of the car.

With it all closed up

And to give you an idea of light levels when shut in, now have in mind this is lunch time in sunny Manchester, it is much better at night, and I find the blue glow quite pleasant.

In broad daylight you can't see the curtains from outside, so at night you have no chance, in fact even with lights on inside and the curtains drawn very little light emits.

Now I want to lower it, stick stupid wide steels on, and sort the paint Cool

I have amassed a load of bits for this:

Front coilovers.
206 alloys. With big balloon tyres I will change for something lower profile in spring
Bonnet protector.
Table(!)

All of these things arrived today, and I have not yet summoned the energy to do anything with them. But I will, and when I do I will proudly show you!

I've been fooling around with this again, painted my bonnet satin black, and put some 15inch generic 206 alloys on (which I don't like, only got them for the tyres really)

Fixed my indicators and wipers, they were inconsistent, due to bad connections in the stalks, disassembled and rebuilt the worn bits with solder. Removing the airbag felt very perilous.

Made a table, there is an A3 sized extending bit underneath, it is all retractable into a 25cm(ish) depth of shelf. Pretty solid feeling too, I made it from wood I got off an unwanted piano, it feels lovely.

And I bought one of these from Ebay, they're really very cheap and come in a variety of lengths, I think it is excellent, well made and nice to operate.

Which converts the lighting inside from this (with the factory boot light):

To this:

A huge difference and one which makes it all the more useful.

More jobs...

I have some Peugeot 308 alloys for it now, 17 inch, by 7.5 which I will fit (somehow).

I still have the coilovers to fit, I'm thinking I might get some wheel arch extensions for a more "Dajiban" look.

FINE!!! I slept for two nights at a VW show in it, then cos I had nowhere to be I buggered off over to the seaside for a couple of nights before heading home, it's pretty cool really. It's not as comfy as a king size double bed, but you have to lower your expectations a little when pikeying about the place in a diddy-van!!
