[Steering & Suspension] Oil leak source?

Hi everyone,

I own a 1.9d 123k miles 03 plate and i have recently discovered an oil leak which I need advice on.
Just the other day I was driving it then, whilst in slow traffic, my engine started making a horrible noise, as if it was unmuffled or as if i was stood next to a tractor rather than its usual rumbly hum noise. I pulled over and looked if it was anything obvious but all I found was an oil leak, possibly old or new, then after 5 minutes of looking about I started the engine and it seemed to be back to normal so I continued my journey.

The leak comes from the back of the oil sump(?) and doesnt seem to be leaking at a concerning rate but I thought it'd be best to investigate before it got worse.
I tried snapping some pictures of the leak but they're pretty terrible.

Most 1.9's leak oil from somewhere or other if its not dripping and making a mess on the road i would not worry about it. As for the noise difficult one?
