Hi all, new to this site so any help or advice is appriciated. I have a 2006 2.0 H.D.I and today it started to cut out for no reason. No coughing, no spluttering, just conked straight out while i was driving. I've noticed it will drive in reverse but once it's put into 1st or 2nd gear and you try and take off it just dies! I had to drive through a flood on the road today but i didnt think it was that deep! it will start and idle but takes a bit to start it.plz help

Well, when you say flood, we think you mean flood, if you meant puddle you should have put 'puddle'
Just how big was this puddle? If water went into the intake it could have bent the conrods with hydraulic compression.

It was after a spell of heavy rain, it was on a country road so it did stretch from one side of the road to the other, but i thought it to be only 2-3 inches deep at most. My friend has petrol fiesta and drove straight through before me, and he hasn't had any problems with his car at all. It took a lot to start it this morning but now that it has warmed up it's idling and turning on/off no problem. Could the heater plugs be damp??

Don't think it's likely to be the heater plugs, they only come on when the weather is really cold.
I would be checking the air filter just in case it got a soaking.
You can run the car for a short while with no air filter with a minimal risk of damage, if the car runs normally without the filter in place
(or with a new filter fitted) then the old filter was damaged by the water ingress.
The Older I get the Better I Was!
