Possible priming pump defect
#1
Hi All.
Ive a problem with the 1.9d multispace, in that it runs beaut once its started but leave it overnight and no go.  Took the lid off the fuel filter, cleaned the one way valve out with soapy water, dried and replaced, with new filter. Tried to fill up the filter with diesel by the hand primer but nothing happened, priming button wouldnt pressurise.  Took the lid back off the filter housing and tried the hand primer to no avail.  Its lifting nothing.  Fuel present in the bowl also runs back through the fuel inlet. Also noticed small glittery bits in the bottom of the filter housing, possibly indicating a pump part that has broken down?
Before I rush out and get a new filter housing/lift pump assembly would people concur that my diagnosis is correct?   Its the Purflux FC446

Thank you and a happy new year!

It does sound like the primer has gone, its not unusual and it can cause the fuel to run back.

Yes, thats exactly whats happening.  I took it off and cleaned the whole filter housing but before it came off I noticed that the fuel was running away back down the inlet pipe.

Can you not fit an in line valve? Just a thought. Smile

Thats exactly what I did. The hardest part was gaining access to the fuel pipe, but I fitted a £6 non return valve.  The motor now starts better than it ever did, first crank on the key! It must have been on the way out for a long time.  Big Grin
