I am looking to carry out an engine oil and filter change on my 57 plate Citroen Berlingo fitted with a 1.6 hdi engine. I dont possess a handbook or workshop manual at present.

Anyone know the correct grade oil please?

Mine (M59 57 plate 1.6HDi) says 5W-30 low SAP and recommend the Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W-30. It is a bit expensive, but I have not had a problem with it. For synthetic-based oil it has to meet at least ACEA A3/B3 and API SL/SEE.

Many thanks saskak for your reply and the details you supply Wink

Just wondering how I can find out what engine my van has fitted, I have done a couple of online checks since I originally posted, this time for an oil filter ( I have ordered a Mahle OX 171/2 D ) most ask for registration number but for future reference and those sites that just have drop down boxes what is the hp of my engine eg 75, 90??

Many thanks

It could be any of these really, also the 110bhp. The difference between the 75 & 90 is the ECU mapping (if my memory/knowledge is correct) and the 110 has a VNT turbo rather than the fixed geometry one as in the 75 and 90bhp. Difficult to say without any more information. Most popular are the 90bhp, but it could well be the others. The V5 should say how many kW is the car, AFAIK the 90bhp is 66kW, do not know about the 75 and the 110bhp, but the 75 should be less than 66kW and the 110bhp should be >66kW, haha. That is probably the easiest way, although to rule out the 110bhp one can look at the numbers on the turbo, but these might be extremely difficult to read. AFAIK no visible differences between the 75 and the 90. V5 is your best bet, unless someone has remapped it and/or upgraded the turbo/ECU mapping and not told anyone.

I asked the question because I haven`t got the log book back from DVLA yet, didn`t know whether there was a chassis plate somewhere displaying an array of numbers and letters that may mean something to those in the know Cool.

Someone can have a look at the specs from your VIN, but my SEDRE does not do it and I have not bothered to check why.

Seems I may have "talked" this subject up........guess what arrived today......my logbook.

Have taken a scan of the logbook, although I have left out the VIN and engine numbers as a precautionary measure. For future reference my logbook doesn`t show the kW of the car, however a search of the Mahle website displays my vehicle details and says its 90hp.

Hope this helps with other forum users queries too. Wink

It does say in the V5 after the 600 HDI LX 92. The 92 is 92bhp. The so called 90bhp are in fact 92bhp rather than 90, but it is just convenient to say 90bhp.
Your engine is 9HXC, same as mine, so it is 92bhp.

Maybe my V5 is a bit on the old side, but the kW were specified there or because mine is a passenger car and yours car derived van the details are different.

Aaaahhhh secret coding Wink , seriously though many thanks saskak for your latest reply and the explanations behind the terminology of the logbook.

As someone mentioned to me recently, every day is a school day and I have learnt something new today Big Grin
