Sticky accelerator pedal
#1
Hi we have just purchased a 2006 berlingo multispace for our dog walking business but everytime I change gear the car over revs...just sat at traffic lights and the revs stay high. I was driving down the street with foot off throttle and car stayed at 40mph!! I've narrowed it down to a sticky throttle pedal...how can I sort this as I need the car for work asap. I cant even find the throttle cable etc...pressing the throttle pedal and it just sticks or very slow raising back up....please help? thanks in advance

Is it a 1.9d or a 1.6hdi? The HDi had an electronic pedal (no cable) and the 1.9d I think had a cable but an electronic actuator on the end so it matters which one it is.

The electronic pedal had two springs inside the pedal but is easy to swap. 3 little bolts and a plug to disconnect, all under the dash in the footwell.

I would remove the pedal, take it inside and open it up. Get one ordered from eBay just in case. Then open it up and have a look at it, there are two longitudinal blue springs inside the casing that may just need greased. Don't get any grease in the sensor though.

I'm pretty sure it will be the pivot binding, so taking it off will let you see what's going on.

Ok so is the pedal easy to remove? Your talking to a complete novice sorry ? what grease/oil should I put on springs. Didnt realise it was the actual pedal that sticks and makes car rev

Ok, it's three bolts and a plug to disconnect. If you don't have a socket set then maybe trust this to a garage. Search Google for "removing Berlingo electronic accelerator pedal youtube" to see what's involved. It's not hard but I'd leave it if you're not competent with a socket set. Once the pedal is off, it's not going anywhere!

The HDi is a complex electronically controlled engine so not really easy to work on for a novice.

Do you have a trusted garage? That's not to say you can't or shouldn't have a go yourself, but beware it's got it's pitfalls if not careful.

I have a 1.6 Hdi - '07 - so probably the same as yours.

I removed the pedal on mine, springs not really much of an issue for me as stiffnes remained when they were removed but I did find the pedal pivots were a little stiff, looked like dismantling not easily possible so I left alone but did use an aerosol lube - not WD40 !! - which helped.

The pedal, pivots and housing is all plastic.

Now I just use the extension spray hose on the can to occasionally lube the pivots in situ.

Yes pedal removal is the proverbial piece of p**s

Hi Geoff so did you have same issue as me? Honestly I s*** myself as I was sat at traffic light and the cat just revved its nuts off. Then travelling along it sat ag 40mph..soon as I flipped my foot under the pedal and raised it back up it obviously cut the revs...cant believe how much the pedal.can stick....what lube did you use Geoff? Cheers Mucka
