Clutch issue?
#1
Hi all, I have a 2014 1.6 manual multispace I’m hoping somebody can help with the following issue. This fault is intermittent and has been happening on and off for 14 months but more frequently in the last 6 months. When I’m driving at any speed in any gear and I’m accelerating or holding my speed and I then need to ease off the accelerator to slow me down a little the car will then not pick up and accelerate again for 3/4 seconds. The engine revs but the car doesn’t move with it. Then all of a sudden it’s ok again and pulls fine. This may happen continuously until I turn the engine off or it might go away straight away but either way when I restart the car to drive it’s fine and can be fine for hours days or weeks. I’ve visited two garages the first said deffo the clutch and will cost £1000 the next said the same thing for the same price. I’ve since gone to Citreon to look to swap the car in and upgrade but when I explained all this to the manager at the dealership he said it would be worth speaking to the parts guys to see what they think. He’s seemed as bemused as me as we both think if it’s the clutch it would be like it all the time and once it’s gone it’s gone. Due to it being a intermitent it possibly won’t show on the fault test and if it didn’t happen when they take it out for a test drive then we’ve got no further and I’m out of pocket to the tune of £150 plus £2600 if it is a clutch and Citreon do it. I’m now not trusting the car to do a long journey  and am hoping somebody may have had the same issue?

I think your clutch will be hydraulic operated , Could it be the hydraulics are not releasing the clutch properly . Faulty hydraulic cylinder ?

If it is not allowing the hydraulic fluid to return smoothly and easily to the reservoir when the pedal is released then the seals inside could be faulty. You would need someone to watch the clutch lever when operating the clutch pedal to see if its operating properly

If not then it will be the clutch plate sticking /worn or twisted and will need renewing.

Someone else may know better.

Thanks for the reply, the majority of the time it happens without touching the clutch. It’s when I come off the accelerator the revs drop slightly to slow me down a little then I continue in the same gear to speed back up. If it does happen when changing gear it’s usually when the problem was caused by the drop in revs along with that the car has juddered a couple of time for about 4 seconds but then it’s fine again.
