No...
Hitler drove VWs...
But he and his generals got a lot of inspiration from another French vehicle.
The diminutive Renault FT tank.
Not the British Marks, or the German A7V landship, but the FT.
It was nimble(well, for a given value of nimble), it was affordable, anyone could drive it and it had a top-mounted rotating turret.
(Except for the turret part, that sounds almost like a copy for a Citroën... )
The Americans had 450 of them in 1918, and Patton led them to a couple of great victories before the war ended. (Yeah, even General Patton drove French!)
Of course, as both the Polish and the French still had them in active service at the beginning of WWII, and the Germans captured around 1700 of them intact, it's possible that they got hold of some that had been modified to use a Citroën-Kegresse suspension and tracks.
So some Germans at least could have been racing around the French countryside in style...
I DO MISS MY BERLINGO
