I had a bearing go on my last van, didn't make any extra noise on cornering, didn't have any play in it, sounded OK when spinning by hand, but spin it at speed with the engine (stupidly dangerous technique so don't do it) speedo showing 30 so wheel speed of 60, it become obvious.

My Nissan had a grumbling bearing with no play at all even passed an MOT but the wheel was hard to spin and when I removed it the inner race had got water in and seized up red with rust
So where does this bit go then ?

reopen the thread...... had the bearing replaced yet the noise remains. although he did say the bearing on wheel was knackered. its now a suspect diff bearing which is really bad news if it is

Oh, oh. My Puglingo is at the garage now for a suspect wheel bearing. The noise is hard to pin-point - at first I thought drivers side, then nearside. Now I'm not sure. :S

The noise started as an intermittent hollow whistling noise, like when you blow over the top of a bottle. Now it sounds like a grating rumble that stops when taking left hand curves. Really hope it's a wheel bearing - or even two!

New drivers side bearing sorted it for me. Phew!

nice one pal. had both wheels in the air tonight with wheels running through the gears. at first both wheels where spinning with the noise. then the replaced bearing spun on its own because of the diff i think. the noise went away when the poorly wheel was still, so think this is culprit.
