How to upgrade/improve resilient mountings for engine cover 2.0HDI engine
#21
Thanks for posting the engine cover info A-W, I was about to make a post regarding a cylindrical piece of rubber I found 2 days ago resting in one of those wells near the rocker cover. Now I know what it is!
As far as I can remember my 2003 2.0 HDI cover is secured with 4 long bolts. Will check this out when it has stopped raining - well I just washed my hair you know! Confusedcratch:

From my original writings on the fitment, my upgade still seems to be working fine (touch wood)

Hi Andy-Womble, by chance could you get me a current Ebay link to the type of fixings you used?
I've done a search on there and there seems to be quite a few variations Confusedcratch:

Is this it?

I just want to get tried and tested ones.

Sorry but after 90 days the detailed description of items is reduced by ebay and I have bought a lot of stuff since I purchased them about 18 months ago so hard to trace back in the time I've got.

Have a look at page one of this thread where there are photos of what I purchased but bear in mind that I also had to buy the studded wing-nuts as well from a different source.

Usual disclaimer but you should be ok with what is listed on ebay and you will have all you need without the messing about that I did....

Good luck and let us know how you go on.........

You can buy rubber cotton reel mounts with 6mm threads at car parts shops for not a lot of money. They are used for mounting exhausts and after market fuel pumps.
So where does this bit go then ?

I've decided to just leave the engine cover in the garage....

Here's the kind of thing I was looking at, ebay link which is a lot cheaper than the kits on sale and you just need four washers and posh nuts for the top.

I thought I'd reply rather than edit the last post, I've just been down to the parts shop my wife drives for on Saturdays and they had one bobbin in stock so I brought it home and tried it for size. It is a Renault exhaust bobbin and apparently a similar thing is used for Vauxhall fuel pump mounts. It cost the princely sum of 60p, I have ordered another 3 to pick up tomorrow and replace the lot. I think if I cut a couple of slots in the upper threaded part it will hold on with the original buttons as well.
Collected and fitted today, put a nut on as a spacer and didn't need to do anything to them as the original clips grip well on the threads of the stud.

I'd like to add to this that before I fitted these I thought that I had a worn drop link as it rattled on right hand turns but I checked them and they look fine with no play and now the noise has gone.
So where does this bit go then ?
