I've seen that on a Sprinter, too! Not nice; it took two days to clean up and the parts washer still pongs of diesel "coal".

I've got to be honest, although it doesn't start as well as it does in summer, it certainly starts better.
There's a bit of diesel around the top of number one injector so the seals are obviously not 100%
What's involved in changing them? And is there anything I can screw up if I'm not carefull?

As regards starting issue I changed to a bigger battery I had lying around. Difference was great- half turn of the key literally ! Bigger the cca (cold cranking amps) the better.
I can hear my glow plug relay clicking much quicker now.
I always wait for relay light to go out first start in morning.
I stripped out the battery tray & the larger battery fitted a treat. Even managed to use original clamp.
