The valve is shut when the engine is not running and it starts to open under vacuum under certain conditions when the engine is running .... so .... you only need to block off the two vacuum lines going to the valve which is dead easy as you already know how to gain access.
One pipe is for the EGR valve and the other is for the butterfly to restrict fresh air flow, both open and close in tandem. Block both pipes.
You do NOT need a blanking kit. There is absolutely no need to blank off at the exhaust end ( and by doing you also run the risk of sheared bolts / studs ).
By the way, good result by the sound of it.
