Locked out

Interesting occurrence happened to me yesterday!
Went to me van ('06 berlingo in white), unlocked it with the fob, opened the drivers door, put my lunch on drivers seat and the keys on the dashboard. 
I'd decided to take my coat off and put it in the back, so I shut the drivers door (with the keys still on the dash) and the van locked me out!!!
After a lot of swearing and reinforcements I managed to get back in ( and ate my lunch!)
I'll make sure i take the keys with me from now on but I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen? 
Why would this happen? Is it just because the van doesn't like me?

That is unusual, I know that if I unlock mine then don't open a door it locks itself after about 30 secs. but I don't think it should lock itself after the door has been opened ... I shall experiment with mine (and spare keys close by)

I've known this happen to others & never leave my keys in the car.Be assured your van does love you.

Perhaps the van didn't want to share lunch with you or the van saw what your wife had put in them through the kitchen window     and was trying to stop you eating them

I never leave keys in any vehicle that is fitted with a computer, when you try to demonstrate the autolock it never seems to happen but these things have evil minds and choose their moment.

It's one of those things that can't happen but still do sometimes. It's never done it on me but I've seen it with various makes of car not just Citroen.

This happened to me on holiday in France. Just got to the first campsite in the Pyrenees (1,001 miles on the trip) and couldn't park in the usual waiting area while the missus was sorting the paperwork out. I had a trailer tent on the back and was sat in the car park at the front of the campsite. They waved me through but I couldn't get out of the car park into the campsite in one move so I got out of the car to unhook the trailer tent and manouvre it by hand. Big Mistake! I had left the engine running and was out of the car and had shut the door. As I unhooked the trailer tent I had the familiar click which meant the car had locked itself.
So stuck at the car park exit gates with the engine running, locked out, no windows open and no spare key to hand in 35 degrees blazing sunshine. Couldn't get in anywhere, a queue of people trying to get out of car park, the cars cooling fan going beserk and feeeling very red faced. Tried breaking the quarter light front side glass on the drivers side but it wouldn't break, must be plastic, just scratched it and did my hands in on the rocks I was trying to break it with.
Had to get a Peugeot garage out (on a Sunday) who used an inflator to spring the door enough to get a slim jim down to open the door via the internal mechanism.
150 Euros lighter and a lesson learnt. DO NOT LEAVE THE CAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING IF YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, carry a spare key and leave a window cracked if possible.
I'm still none the wiser why it did this, I have left the car running before and closed the door to de-ice the windscreen, open gates etc.

Mine does it quite regular when I open with the fob and then open the tailgate.

For some reason, it doesn't recognise opening the tailgate as having been opened so auto relocks after 30 secs.

Sometimes it even does it when the boot is still open and I am festering about in the rear of the car.

Clearly it's a fault where my car acknowledges it's been unlocked but doesn't recognise any of the doors have opened, so it shuts itself.
