Thanks folks, yes, long term I will probably replace the inlet manifold anyway - likely with a scrappy part as money tends to be fairly tight. At the moment it's running pretty well so am not gonna try and fix something that is less broken...if that makes sense.
I checked out the k&n kit and approve thoroughly, but sadly it's well out of my budget (kid on the way blah blah y'know)
The plan is to, hopefully, fabricate something to bend from the maf round to close to where the air intake currently is and bracket filter off there. Have looked at all the various induction kits that i can find and all seem to have at least one bit of design that irks me (yes, I get picky over design). Is there any reason that I shouldn't use plastic plumbing pipe for this sort of thing? I wouldn't think it'll get too warm and I'm pretty boss at making coke can heatshields...
Have ordered a ripspeed cone filter (they seem to review well for the price - new.old stock 13 quid) so will crack on with this as soon as it shows up and will let y'all know how well/badly it goes :-)
