Berlingo problems
#1
Hello

This is my first post. I just bought a berlingo 2.0 hdi and there are some problems I need to fix. It always happens to me that I see the faults after the deal is done.
1. I noticed that the air bag light is constantly on. I searched the forum and it seems to be a common problem.
2. Today the speedo and odometer suddenly stopped working. I searched the forum and it seems that it could be a sensor issue on the diff housing. Is there a fuse as well that could be blown?
3. When sitting in the traffic the engine temperature gauge rised near 100 C. Is it normal or should I start to inspect the cooling fan operation.
4. Selecting first gear is somewhat hard. I posted on fcf about it  aswell and people there thought it could be a clutch issue. Does it mean that the clutch is worn beyond normal wear and needs replacement.
Overall I am pleased with the car but I knew that there could be many electrical issues with it. Therefore I am planning to buy a lexia tool. From where is the best place to buy it?

Welcome to the forum Raul,

What year is your Berlingo?

1, Not had a problem personally with airbags, but like you say, there are plenty of posts on here about problems and how to track them down. If you can't resolve the problem, maybe start a new thread or tag onto an existing one.

2, Yeah, my speedo goes to sleep sometimes. It's probably the sensor wiring connection on top of the diff. I've not managed to get the connector off to clean the contacts but moving it around helps. There are some videos about location & how to change it, search on Google for '2.0 Hdi speedo' or similar.

3, Keep an eye on the temperature under normal driving conditions, what does it usually show? I seem to remember some posts on here about the fan cutting in at around 100, so you may be ok.

4, Difficulty to engage the gear may be the clutch cable not adjusting, where does the pedal bite, at the top or bottom of travel?

The airbag light went off. I just fiddled the wires under the passenger seat.
I would say that the pedal bites quite high. But overall the clutch seem heavy. I think it normal with non hydraulic clutches. Maybe I should try to renew the clutch cable and see if it makes things better.

1/ Typical for Berlingo  Big Grin

2/ Typical / normal

3/ If all good leave alone, heavy isn't unusual

I am going to renew the gearbox oil. Haynes says that I should also renew the washers under the oil plug bolts. Stupid question but are those readily available in shops or should I order the original washers.

I never replaced the washer, but I do use a small amount of instant gasket to be sure, never had a leak so far. Changing the oil did make quite a difference on my 2.0, but make sure you use the correct grade of oil. When I was looking for oil, the local parts shop tried to sell me some generic gearbox oil which was too thick. In the UK, GSF sell the correct Total oil, I'm sure it's available elsewhere too.

Quote:If you have 2.0HDI, it is possible (in most cases, pre 2007 models). You should buy and install a cruise controlstick P/N 6242Z9, and then make two settings changes with Lexia:

1.
Go to Global test- BSI - configuraton-manual configuration-witout data.
configuration - cruise control option : change from "missing" to "present". Press F1 to update.

2. Go back to main screen.
injection-diesel engine-engine code (RHY)- configuration--without data-manual configuration-cruise control - change from "absent" to "present"- F1 to update.

Is fitting a cruise control as simple as that? I have a 2003 year model.
