Engine flush
#11
Yea that's what I thought, infact I would have the same concerns about using a engine flush at all for the same reasons...

The same guy also recommended taking the little strainer out of the turbo oil feed banjo bolt which I think is a good idea. Therefore I've mixed opinions on this guys advice...

On the 2 occasions i've decided to use any kind of engine flush, i've put in the flush then drain with the old oil, refilled with oil and new filter then ran it for a week or 2. I've always then done another oil and filter change to ensure that the oil in the engine has no traces of flush left in it.

No matter what the makers of the flushes say, I just can't see how they can't degrade new oil in any way. IMO most of the time an engine flush isn't needed anyway. For me, maybe dropping the oil and new filter after 1000 miles is a better option.

No need to flush diesels are just like that. Oil dirtys within 5 mins

If ya really want to do it, drain, fill with a cheap oil, run for a min or 2 and drain again. Then the proper oil

I suspect that this cheap oil is only good for flushing (below). Am I right?

Taking all guesses - how many shekels you think I paid for this? :-D

Yes, it's in my 1.9d at the moment - but I should pick up another 2 oil filters, some decent oil (any recommendations?), and flush the engine using the rest of the 15w-40 bottle pictured.

To date, I've never seen 5W-40 available here in Israel. And the a3/b3 whatever is a bit sketchy - looking in more shops...

As far as engine flush, I had good response with my old petrol 1992 citroen ZX, engine oil still looked clean months after the flush. Nice. I know diesel is different, trying to get used to it, and still want to keep bad bad particles out if possible.

Didn't think anyone flushed these days. I flushed my 1961 Sunbeam back in 1969 due to a suspected sticky oil pressure relief valve. Havent flushed anything since then. We've since owned an Austin 1100, Triumph Spitfire, two VW Beetles, Renault 4, two VW Golfs, (petrol and diesel), two Series 3 Land Rovers, petrol Passat, four Saabs, and currently a VW Passat and 1.6hdi Berlingo, both diesels. Oh and an awful MG Midget.
All of the above have had their share of problems, but none were flushed and none have had major engine problems that could be attributed lack of flushing.
My turbo will, of course, give me the finger tomorrow.

hmmmmm ... heard feedback about engine flush chemical "eating" out the cylinder gasket ... any one could help verify this claim ....

I have not seen anyone using a low pressure dried compressed air blowing into the oil cap opening .... my mech does it and I have seen more dirty oil coming out then letting it sit and drain slowly.

A cheap modded engine oil cap with opening for compress air to "push" out those remaining dirty oil "... clean as a whistle ..."

BTW diesel engine are have higher compression than normal petrol version ...

Hope this helps ...

Whenever I purchase a used vehicle I always remove the sump to see if there is any sludge, if there is any then no amount of flushing will clear it - you will be wasting your time and money.

You will have the added advantage of getting an insight into the condition of your engine. If you find polymerised oil inside then you have been sold a pup and time to move it on before the wallet cries.

I've just done an engine flush and oil change myself last week. Inspecting the oil returned no sludge problems. This is actually the first time I've done oil change since I bought it which was 2 years ago. Very happy with the results. My ghetto way is the best way to flush it without spending money on those crap products. I came prepared as well as I got on that eurocarparts deal 5 liter cheap oil + free filter by choice. I paid 12gbp for 5-30 fully synthetic and I forgot what brand filter I selected. http://s29.postimg.org/959ps8bev/GOPR1238.jpg http://s17.postimg.org/bx7qeaqwv/GOPR1242.jpg changed the seals on the remote oil filter housing. Of course when I put it back together the shitty plastic oil filter cap had a split and as soon as I started the car it started leaking oil. So ordered a new one from eastern europe and by the time it arrived I've decided to change the coolant. Decided to go for a new thermostat just to make sure. I hate doing a job and to find something needs replacing, which is most of the time, plus the t-stats are cheap anyway. http://s23.postimg.org/jq3j8yiwb/GOPR1250.jpg
So yeah the car is now completely done, new brake fluid, new coolant, new oil, new screenwash..........gearbox is next when I get a new driveshaft seal.
