I costs me £800 to insure my van,(aswell as £500 to insure my side-project car) Compared to the £500 it cost to insure my old off-road modified P38 Range Rover I had before it...Insurance is a funny old game, they just seem to pick the prices out of a hat.

Don't Go Compare or Compare the Market or Confused.con, they are all very overpiced, I did OK with Tesco's and Direct Line was OK too.

Having bull bars, higher % tinted windows, tow bar, fitted bike rack, spot lights, all fitted, THEY have to be declared on insurance policy.....even though some dont effect policy / price . Beware I reversed into a wall which my rear sensors didnt pick up and I didnt see, just dented bumper and cracked lights. My insurance then went up by over 100.00 on renewal, and searching for quotes both comparison sites and private cheapest was £340.00 with mods as above. Im almost 60 [well this year] no points no claims in last 5 yrs, only this bump. ROBBING BASTARDS.....As another said my insurance for my Harley is a third of price. The other problem is as my partner and I are both insured for each others cars her insurance had to be notified of my "bump". AND yes hers went up....as I said r----b-----s....
oh yes forgot to say and alloys....

do tell them otherwise if you make a claim and dont have time to remove extras / mods the buggers wont pay up....After my bump the repair company national breakdown, took 4 weeks to start repair, I had loan car whilst this was done, on chasing them they said my alloys wernt declared.....I had to personally chase insurance company to confirm with repair company before they started repair....Keep on top of them, dont leave em to it.....

I changed van over to AVIVA a couple of years ago , after comparisons they offered £600 tool cover included in best quote by far , so no brainer for my personal circumstances .
However , thought this might tickle you ; last year when car was up for renewal we entered our details into a comarison site to be bemused by the response . . . . . our current insurers offering a better price on tinternet by approx £ 100 .
We were astounded when we rang our insurers and they advised us that such is the nature of the beast etc and the best thing we could do would be . . . you guessed it , cancel policy with them and take identical poicy out . . . with them on tinternet :brickwall: you've got to laugh or you'd cry . Thanx for the cash though !

Well now I´ve passed (just!!!) the 50 mark I´ll give SAGA a ring when it´s due just to see what they say. I´ll get ribbed something rotten off my missus, but if it saves a few quid then so be it.

Talking of motorbike insurance, I´ve been reading over the past few weeks about Bennetts insurance who have brought in a "3 modifications" rule - any more than 3 modifications and they won´t insure you. And would you believe that a sticker counts as a modification???? So............ put 4 stickers on your bike and they won´t insure you, but forget the stickers and fit a supercharger and they will. A guy on another forum I use phoned them up to tell them he´d changed the colour of his bike and they refused to insure him, making him cancel his policy part way through the year and lose money!

I still hate insurance companies!!!

Isn't it about time legislation came in to check these practices and stop the profiteering, in my opinion, unless I just dont fully understand why they keep rising so sharply. Cant the government take over the vehicle insurance business ? Maybe not as mad as it sounds.or maybe it is !! :brickwall:
