Trailer buzzer
#11
My caravan tows so well that I sometimes forget it's there.
When I look in the mirrors I think I'm being tailgated. By a caravan! Confusedillyme:

As an HGV driver I (we) always reverse with hazard lights on, and I do the same with the caravan when reversing.
And with the caravan being of 1993 vintage it doesn't have reversing lights fitted, so at least with hazards on people know what you are doing. Hopefully.
And, yes, I can reverse a caravan. None of this un-hitching and moving by hand, that's too much like hard work.
And, yes, I am partial to a Yorkie. (The chocolate; not the dog!)

Yikes-thought we were heading for a jimmysavile moment there.
What do you reckon on the indicator type buzzer on the reversing lights Martin?
It is on my to do list.

Do you guys not look behind you before you reverse, trailer or no trailer. What is somebody had driver up close behind you just as you stopped. Would that not mean you'd reverse into them??

Confusedcratch:I dont see the relevance of that to the subject.
Not sure you are getting the point, prunty, but in any case with a van you only have door mirrors for rear viewWink
It is on my to do list.

On recent trailer electrical setups is there not a circuit that stops the car rear fog light from functioning, I am sure that someone could use this function to control areversing light buzzer when reversing.

When we had a caravan I always got out and had a look before reversing it anywhere, also the co pilot used to stand near the rear nearside corner to keep me advised of any possible dangers.

Yea, your right my comment wasn't directed at the subject but more to the guys who forgot they had a trailer behind when they started reversing.

Anyway, I'm afraid I can't offer any assistance to you on your dilemma. Sorry...

How about a towbar wiring indicator bleeper-the ones that you put on the indicator circiut that sound only when the trailer indicators are flashing?
Is this too simple? what have I overlooked?

Think you've cracked it.
#Fit the beeper with the trailer reversing light fed thro' one half of the beeper's indicator detector wires and it should beep only when the trailer is connected and going backwards. (will sound all the time you're reversing not on/off tho')
Assumes that the trailer has reversing lights and that they work?

I know what you are getting at, Evdama (wish I could remember your name?).
Have you tried any of these....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/reverse-bleepe...1c110b1a73
Good luck with it.

Thanks Martin,btw -its Martin:eek:
Looks like the weather might break this week so Ill find some scotchlocks and try the indicator buzzer idea first as I've an unused one from the last kit I bought.
Thanks blingoblue- yes its got a pair of good reversing lights -the main reason I fitted a 13 pin setup.
I just suspect after all my deliberations this is solution is far too straightforward to work -got to have missed something.
If it works I could always then hack into it and graft in a different bleeep-theres countless 555 projects on 'tinternet
It is on my to do list.
