Anyone have plans for a simple camper unit
#1
Hello there - I have just bought a 2009 XTR and am looking to build a camping conversion kit / unit for short  trips and overnight european motorway stops.  Realistically, in terms of quality and features,  I'm hoping for something half way between a Boot Jump (which looks pretty flash) and a 'Space Camper' module (which looks to me like a few plywood boards knocked together).

Before I start I just wondered if anyone had any plans, however basic, that they might share.

Any help much appreciated.

I found some plans on this site and modified them to included a table  I am still looking pic of the completed boot for you to see
I found a wood supplier who cut the wood in the sizes required, was almost a flat pack and the same with the foam for bed and seating

I am hoping this will show you the plan I use on my 2007 Berlingo and it still fits in my 2012 XTR  ) I am still looking for other photo when completed
Note: you will need a extra box panel if you fit table

Many thanks indeed for this - hugely helpful; just what I needed.

I have found a few pics which I took when selling my 2007  but sold it without the camper I have made a pdf file which should take up less space
I can give you details where to get you foam again cut to size - Let me know if you need any more info

Thanks - looks great - you did a good job.  The only bit I don't fully get on the plan is the 3.5cm yellow bar between end and second panel - is that a support bar? And why not just hinge all the various boards together - or looking again, are green/blue / pink panels separate to the back box?

That bar is very important  if you dont fit it , it will not fold correct ( I cut about 1cm off it as I made one of the boards slighly sorter as the front seat on the 2007 don't fold flat and  I ended up screwing the piece back on again)  you cant go wrong if you follow the colour code in the plan.

I got A4 paper printed the main boards then folded them as in the plan you should see how it works . The pink on will be on top of the red one,and refolds again so needs the bar to fill the gap (2x 15mm=30mm ) guess the extra 5mm is taken up by the hinge.

Oh I get it now - it is the order they fold in (and in on each other) that makes the gap necessary. Totally get it now. Many thanks; really helpful.

What a great forum!

Just a quick note I was in Lidi (ireland ) and saw some folding crates which are prefect to use with this boot camp I bought 5  so put 3 in lower comparments and 2 on top one on each side so can still see out of rear window plus you can fold flat when not being used

Thanks for the plans & pix, it looks really good! I made a quick & easy single bed version that sits at about the same height as yours but I found I have problems getting in & out of the side door due to the height of my bed above the ground and could see no way of closing the rear door once in bed so have considered lowering the bed as I've also taken the rear seats out but that would mean the loss of storage space. Maybe some foam would be better than the airbed, please can you post some details of what you used?
