I have a 64 plate XTR, and having just spoken to Sean in Citroen Customer Service, he has thrown a spanner in the works by telling me that you DO need to use beam deflectors on the Berlingo when you travel to France. I am now very confused as Citroen UK seem to be giving different advice! I think I will play it safe and carry on using my beam benders when I travel abroad.

I think you will find all modern car headlights, ie with the clear plastic lenses, do not dazzle oncoming drivers abroad. The beams bias to the left but they shine at ground level not at eye level of oncoming motorist. I didn't use benders on my previous Berl either & nobody flashed me up on unlit single carriageway rds. It was the old glass headlights that went sharply to the left & it was obvious where you stuck the benders. On clear plastic lenses its difficult to know where to stick them anyway.
What do yours look like in the dark? If it's a fairly symetrical pattern with just 2 points of light pointing to the left then same as mine so you probably don't need them..

My C4 VTS has clear plastic Xenons and they very obviously don't shine to the left at ground level - they wouldn't light up roadside signs on the left if they did. They point pretty much exactly where my 04 plate HDi Berlingo does, just with a more defined pattern.

I agree, mine do light up road signs on the left, so I would assume that they would also light up drivers coming towards you when you are driving on the right. Is there a definitive answer to this question? To use beam benders or not to use beam benders? I'm confused.com!!!!!

Just park in front of a wall at night and see if the headlights kick up to the left.

On my skoda there is a lever in the headlamp that by moving it the beam flattens, it removes " the kick up " at the left. I wonder if there is something similar or should be in the berlingos headlamps,?

Yes, I remember a lever like that on my Renault Dauphine in the early 1960s. Brilliant, simple idea.
