Replacing dadhboard bulb
#11
Yeah mate it's only a set of 3 plugs on the back, and held in by two T20 torx screws. The plugs are impossible to mix up too. The console in the pic isnt mine, I've got AC and heated mirrors but the fixings and plugs are all the same.

Might have fixed mine if I'd realised that, as I decided to leave it alone as I couldn't work out how to remove it due to not being able to see it.
Now an ex Berlingo owner, I have a C4

Perhaps I can put in my pennyworth having recently changed these bulbs on the wife's B9 dog van.

I agree that springing out the small panel under the controls panel will expose two torx screws. Ones these are removed the heater panel is eased upwards to release it from the top fixings. In order to make access to the rear of the panel a lot easier it is necessary to remove the cubby hole box above the panel. This is done by easing out at the corners and sides with a trim removal tool (a kit of which all aspiring B9 owners should buy). The cubby box can then be pulled out and the USB socket leads disconnected. The heater panel can now be manipulated and pushed back at the bottom. It is not necessary to unplug the leads to the push buttons although this does make access to the bulbs even easier. It is also not necessary to disconnect the controls cables to either the temperature control or air flow direction knobs. Push the panel in at the bottom to an angle of 45 degrees. Now take a 10mm deep socket with a knob of Bluetack pushed into the open end and using a small mirror (and a head torch to throw light in the void) push the socket over the brown bulb holders, twist and remove. TRY NOT TO DROP THEM! Don't panic if you do but it will need a bit more panel dismantling around the gear lever to get at the little blighters were they have fallen. I made the mistake of buying the bulb already fitted in the holder - wrong, these do not fit unless you get the genuine brown Citroen ones. It is better to buy just the bulbs themselves , pull the old bulb out of the holder and push the new bulb back in. Also best to change both bulbs at the same time even if only one has blown as if you don't the Law Of The Sod will kick in and you will be doing the whole exercise all over again in a short time!
Re-fitting of everything is literally a reversal of the removal procedure. Once you have done it you will wonder what all the fuss was about and feel like a Heater Bulb Changing God!!

The whole process is very similar to gynecology or, if like me , you have spent your working life repairing central heating boilers and are used to working in confined spaces!!

Don't follow the video above, it's not for the illumination bulbs, and is not how you get to them. The person in the video is exposing the button LEDs for the switches above and is not what this thread is about.

Thank you to everybody who has contributed to this thread. I'm going to buy some 286 bulbs before I start. I guess I need three of those.

I'll order a trim removal tool too.
