With Riggsy's fault I would just be inclined to rule out an EGR fault before buying a new MAF.

.

Best way to rule out the MAF is just to disconnect it. When mine went it improved straight away when I pulled the connector. I tried the clean up with acetone but it was only fixed when I bought a new one. It doesn't put a code up running without it.
So where does this bit go then ?

To be honest the car is now transformed , it must of been dodgy for a while as its now back to its old self ! As it's got no EML light up I may just leave it unplugged for now as see how it goes .
Thanks for all your advice . Much appreciated
