New Diesel Engine
#1
I have just bought a new XTR 90BHP HDi and have covered almost 1000 miles.

Coming from the 1.6 petrol engine in the same vehicle, I find the diesel engine a little harsh at higher revs ( above 3000 ), also seems a little vibration felt through the accelerator pedal when accelerating.

It is only a minor concern but just wondered if this is normal.

This probably doesn't help, but . . .

My first Berlingo was a 1.6 Petrol (Mk 1). Last year I rented a 1.6 diesel Mk 3 in France, which was very new, and found it rather clattery at low revs. Then last month I replaced my petrol Berlingo with a four year old Mk 2 diesel 1.6. Interestingly enough, I find it very refined.

Do diesels get smoother after their first few thousand miles?

interesting my 10 month old mk 3 is quite smooth, and I am impressed with it. Having had many diesels over the years as company cars this is no worse, maybe a touch quieter....my only gripe compared with fords is the gear stick is wobbly / jerky / floppy compared with a slick ford .

Thanks for your input.

I usully run my vehicles in so have driven my Berlingo at low to modest revs with on occasional burst up to around 3500 rpm.

It has now covered over 1000 miles so I am on odd occasions pushing the revs up to 4000 rpm although this is not my usual range to drive in.

I notice that the engine changes note slightly above 3000 rpm, to me at the moment it is takeing on a slightly harsher note and feel.

On another note what is oil consumption like with the HDi.

Thanks again

I find the Diesel engine quite smooth. My previous 3 cars were Skoda and they seemed to rattle and used a lot of oil. talking of oil i find it difficult to get a reading from the dipstick.
I DO MISS MY BERLINGO Heart
