Hi

Thanks to all about MPG for Berlingos. Can anyone help me to find camper conversion specialists somewhere near to Manchester or Staffordshire. I am after a conversion using my 5 seats!

I go camping and walking a lot so it would only be a sort of wild camping van. I still cannot find any suitable place for curtains or blinds that can stick on the windows.

PS This site is proving to be very useful so far.

go for a good tint, you dont need curtains then.......and with rear seats out there is plenty of room to sleep I use 2 self inflating mattresses.

Hello Dizzydi, did you see my posting on another thread for this company http://www.caktanks.co.uk/

Despite the dubious sounding name, they are kosher and specialise in lots of goodies for caravans, mobile homes etc.

I live in Stoke on Trent and seem to recall there was a place locally that did motorhome and campervan conversions but the name escapes me, will have to get back to you on that one though quite a lot of folks seem to be doing the DIY thingy nowadays.

My '57 1.6 HDI returns 55+ on A roads & 50+ on motorways whilst averaging 60mph. Light throttle, light braking(ie forward observation) makes a world of difference to consumption.

My 1.6HDi does mostly long motorway journeys from Staffordshire to Scotland and London at 65-70mph.
Last time I checked it was doing 56 mpg, which I am quite happy with.
Compare this to our Drag Car which uses 1.5 gallons per run, which equates to 6 gallons per mile! Or £38.00 per mile, using Tesco Momentum 99 RON (research octane number) fuel.

Just used my first tankfull of diesel in my 2.0Hdi, a mixture of motorway, A roads & a little bit of town driving, and got 48.8mpg.

Long term results for my 2004 2.0HDi with 144,000 miles are:-

No EGR = average 46.67 MPG
EGR = average 43.8 MPG

Both averaged over 23 tankfuls each to give the best spread of use. Various fuels used in each sample, having the EGR or not, was the only variable that I can account for.

Recently completed a return trip to Aberdeen - 1200 motorway miles at 80mph with about a 100 running around up there returned a shade over 40mpg.

Taller gearing would help, but I've not found any realistic way of achieving this

I had a 1.9D Mk1 Berlingo which did around 42mpg throughout the 7 years I had it.

I now have a 2009 1.6Hdi90 which will never do less than 48mpg in mainly urban driving. When we go on a run it returns around 53mpg, and the aircon makes little difference in my experience. I don't hammer it so this probably explains decent figures.
