Loss of power

Has anyone tried V POWER from Shell in a Citroen?

Tried using Shell V Power a couple of years ago when we had record summer temperatures, initially was stunned by increased MPG.

On a two hour run using air con frequently reached an astounding 74.3 MPG!
Quickly found that this was only achievable when weather temp was in the 80's.
Temp dropped so did the MPG.
Then stopped using it due to the extra cost.

Retried earlier this year after Shell sent me some Vouchers, only managed to get at best between 36-41+ MPG, I can get between 42.8-50+MPG using ordinary Diesel, standard Esso and even Sainsburys outperforms both Shell V power and even their standard City Diesel performed better than the V Power.
We do have a lot of hills here in Sheffield which obviously affects MPG.

This is in my Berli of course, no doubt others driven on more level roads will return better performance than this.

Don't know if Shell have altered whatever they put in it since I first tried it?

The increased cost and poorer MPG make Shell uneconomic to use in my car.

A mate of mine is periodically adding RED X to his Mondeo's tank and is seeing better MPG and increased performance.
Going to give it a try soon.

I tried Millers diesel treatment just to see if it did anything positive and or meaningful. I get slightly better mpg...up to 10 extra and the engine loves it!
Noticeably better torque and less noise/ vibration. A 500ml bottle treats up to 500 litres of diesel....every so often I use a double dose especially with an unknown brand of fuel.....does what it says on the tin! Recommended!

Hi Philip

Just wondered if you are still getting loss of power because my berlingo is doing the same.
Had it into dealers they took for a test drive and noticed the problem but because there was no engine management light coming on they were clueless, and put the problem down to dirty diesel.
Ihave changed petrol stations, added fuel cleaners and changed fuel filter but still get the same loss of power every now and again.

Thanks

This could be something as simple as a blocked fuel tank breather...
As the tank empties the vacuum increases and fights the fuel pump.

Do you think it is more likely to do it when the tank is low on fuel i don't mean running out but under 1/4?
