1.9D Idle speed. What's yours ?
#13
Ive just ordered a Fast Idle Thermostatic Sensor as the tick over on my 2002 1.9 had suddenly raised itself to 1100 when running at normal temperature . The sensor itself is located in the base of the diesel fuel filter / thermostat housing . Its screwed in and has a cable which runs up to the fuel injection pump , where it has 2 x adjustments . The tick over can be lowered by slackening the cable clamp screw and allowing the fast idle lever to spring back , as its under a small amount of spring tention , this will allow the tick over to be adjusted back to 825 - 850 revs when hot . The sensor appears to be a fairly common problem on diesel engines , but be aware if left will give increased fuel consumption . I have run my car for a time with the cable disconnected and all that you have to be aware is that on initial start up you will have to slightly depress the accelerator pedal to raise the revs as they will be around 800 when cold .They use 3 different injection pumps but all work in a similar fashion .
