Rear Axle Companies
#1
Hiya everybody,

I have my mot coming up and knowing that my rear axle is shot I now need to replace it.

Has anybody got any recommendations on which company I should use to buy my new/reconditioned axle from?

I was going to use Fraser Brown engineering but have found they no longer supply them, they have passed that side of their business over to a company called Oman Mechanical Solutions, they still have the grease nipple but however now only guarantee their work for 2 years when before I believe it was a lifetime guarantee.

Has anybody got any experience of axles from this other company?

They cost £420 delivered.

The other options I have found is :

imaxle.co.uk , reconditioned £300 delivered or £350 new delivered
axledirect.co.uk, reconditioned £339 delivered

Both have a 2 year guarantee/warranty.

If anybody has any personal experience of any of these companies or know of any others that they can recommend I would be very grateful.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help.

Hello, first post here. I used im axle specialists for my 2003 berlingo van. I bought a brand new axle and it fitted straight on with a bit of wriggling here and there. (Pretty heavy thing) You will probably also have to buy 2 rear axle mounting bushes as mine where shot and also remove the old fixing plates for the bushes from the old axle. All in all no problems. They posted the axle up, after the new axle was fitted I rang them up and they arranged a courier to take the old one back. Keep the packaging it came in to reuse.

Thanks for that didn't consider new bushes.

That's the axle I'm going towards getting too , nice to hear you had no problems.

Were you able to reuse your old hub/ wheel bearings or did you buy new ones?

The rear hubs where a bit of a pain to remove. There's that small cir-clip thing to take off, then if i remember rightly we used a puller to remove the hub.  I had to buy a new hub for one side. the other was OK. I had noticed that my rear axle had that distinctive "cocked leg look" and the bearings where on there way out. The guy at the MOT station passed it but said it could last a long time or go very quickly and advised that it be changed.

Axledirect is crap, got 2 axles from them and both within 2 years gone again. They ignore you when trying to claim your warranty. Don't use them. Very bad...

Axles direct are a complete bunch of sharks in my opinion.
I have probably fitted 50 from IM axles & never had one issue ever, they are superb.
