2008 1.6hdi flywheel studs sheared!
#1
My 1.6hdi multispace broke down ages ago.. 70mph, rattling sound... stop. I got it recovered home, guessed some kind of flywheel problem, and have gradually been taking it to bits to diagnose it.

When I dropped the gearbox the clutch and flywheel came with it. Oh dear!

The heads of all 6 flywheel bolts are rattling around inside the clutch and the remaining threaded parts are snapped off flush with the flange on the crank.

Amazingly there doesn't seem to be any collateral damage at all. Nothing I can see anyway. The loose parts stayed inside the clutch and the whole clutch and flywheel were just sitting on the gearbox input splines.

My questions are: what's the drill? Are the bolts supposed to have washers or at least flanges? Because these ones don't. It doesn't look right at all? Obviously it's been assembled incorrectly. Are you supposed to renew the studs every time? Academic in my case as I obviously have to.

Just looking for any knowledge or advice from anyone who has experience of whipping the flywheel off one of these little beauties.

Cheers

William

Update: tried heat to break the loctite: going to replace oil seal anyway, and got 3 studs out with hammer and punch. Remaining 3 won't shift. Leaving it alone for a while now to avoid making any drastic mistakes.

Looking at the CATCR info there are just HEX HEAD CAPSCREW 10x150-20. No washer etc shown .

You may have to drill them out , thread tight due to damage before breaking off.?
Never heard of these breaking before , may have been below torque settings?

You've got me nervous now, plenty of bolts for sale for the dual mass flywheel.
Unobtanium for my ordinary flywheel, so I reused mine, with blue loctite and tight till yield.
Fingers crossed.

Do you have any spare Unobtainium? I've never been able to obtain any.
