With Riggsy's fault I would just be inclined to rule out an EGR fault before buying a new MAF.

Best way to rule out the MAF is just to disconnect it. When mine went it improved straight away when I pulled the connector. I tried the clean up with acetone but it was only fixed when I bought a new one. It doesn't put a code up running without it.
So where does this bit go then ?
